Be wealthy by eating healthy....if u fall sick the time , money and income all are lost ......

Eating healthy can help you live longer and stronger and can help you to sharpen your mind. While planning your meals, it is important to focus on the following points:

» Reduce sodium: Season your food with garlic, ginger, spices and herbs instead of salt to prevent water retention and high blood pressure.

» Add fibre: Choose high fibre foods like green, leafy vegetables, whole grains and beans. A fibre-rich diet prevents constipation and chronic liver disease.

» Avoid ‘hidden sugar’: Packaged and ready-to-eat meals often have lots of added sugar. Choose fresh vegetables, home-made food, as opposed to fast food, canned goods and candy.

» Choose a ‘colorful’ plate: Fruits that are rich in color correspond to rich nutrients. A colourful plate could contain the following: spinach, tomatoes, brinjal, corn and watermelon.

» Avoid skipping meals: If you skip your meals, you might feel sluggish throughout the day. This will slow down your metabolism and you might gorge on fast food later in the day!

Beatroot helps reducing blood pressure

beetroot juice lowers blood pressure. A new study from the University of London adds to the growing list of research showing that drinking beetroot juice is an effective way to bring your blood pressure down.

What’s special about beetroot juice?

Beets are an excellent source of nitrate, a substance which, when converted to nitric oxide, improves blood flow by helping relax the blood vessels. This action in burn lowers blood pressure, a benefit that could be welcomed by the estimated 1 billion people around the world with hypertension.
In this new study, the latest of many, researchers enrolled 15 adults who had a systolic blood pressure ranging from 140 to 159 millimeters of mercury (mmHg) and who were not taking medication for hypertension. Individuals with this range of systolic blood pressure are classified as having stage 1 high blood pressure.

Ask Ellie Krieger

Midday Munchies

Print E-mail

Q: I always get tired toward the end of the workday — right around when I want to grab a chocolate bar from the candy machine. Is there a healthier but fast way to get some energy? A:

That candy machine is tempting — but a habit worth breaking. Keep your quarters for the parking meter and try some of these ideas: Every Monday bring 5 pieces of fruit to work to keep at your desk so you can enjoy a piece each day. Keep a few snack-size bags of almonds at your desk for a portion-savvy energizing crunch.. Stash some low-fat cottage cheese, yogurt and cheese in the office fridge for a calcium rich snack. Easy to munch veggies like baby carrots and grape tomatoes are also great to have around, especially with some hummus for dipping.
